B-Roll Moment – My Books as Backdrop on KWQC News

Though unmentioned in the script, my book was visually featured throughout the KWQC news segment, sharing some screen time with the highlighted title. A reminder that visibility often arrives in quiet ways, and every appearance counts when building an author’s voice and presence in the local literary community.

Sometimes life surprises you in the sweetest, most unexpected ways. Recently, a local news piece by KWQC TV6 News covered a wonderful author event at the Silvis Public Library, where Quad Cities authors gathered to share their stories, sign books, and connect with the community. The segment focused on one book in particular, Every Day Counts, but when the cameras rolled, something magical happened: my books, El Príncipe Berberisco, appeared prominently on screen too. https://www.kwqc.com/2025/11/19/quad-cities-authors

Now, let’s be clear, this wasn’t the headline of the story. My name wasn’t mentioned in the anchor’s narration, and the segment itself highlighted another author’s mission to encourage school attendance through a charming character named Emmy. But if you watched the broadcast, you’d be forgiven for thinking El Príncipe Berberisco was a co‑star! The B‑roll footage, the background clips used throughout the piece, featured my books at least twice, clearly displayed among the tables of self‑published works. That kind of presence on regional television is rare and beautiful, especially for an indie author who’s poured heart, soul, and late nights into their craft.

It got me thinking about how we see recognition. A news anchor didn’t read my name. I didn’t get a soundbite about my creative process or inspirations. And yet, my work was literally part of the story being told. In a way, it’s a reminder that visibility isn’t always about being the subject, sometimes it’s about simply being there. Being present. Being seen. And being available for hearts and minds to discover when the spotlight finally sweeps your way.

In the clip, you’ll spot the bright cover of El Príncipe Berberisco among the display of books that lined the author fair table. Whether it’s because the cameraman found it eye‑catching or maybe the producer thought it added visual texture to the story, the fact remains: my creative labor caught a bit of the camera’s eye. Viewers tuning in that day might not have heard my voice, but they saw my books. That’s no small thing, especially for readers who are curious, browsing local stories, and looking for something fresh and meaningful to dive into.

And to me, that’s the sweetest kind of spotlight. Recognition doesn’t always announce itself with fanfare. Sometimes it dances quietly in the background, part of the wider scene, and you only realize later how lovely and significant it was. Seeing El Príncipe Berberisco on KWQC reminded me that stories matter beyond the page, and that the work we create ripples out in ways we can’t always predict.

“You never know when the spotlight might sweep your way, so show up, stand tall, and let your work speak. Even quiet preparation can catch an unexpected eye.”

So here’s to the moments that aren’t the headline, the little flashes of visibility that, in their own way, celebrate the work we love. And to anyone watching who paused even for a second on my books in that broadcast: thank you. I hope El Príncipe Berberisco finds a way into your heart, if you’re a Spanish reader.
